“The Girls” are three white Leghorn breed of chickens and two black and brown hybrid crosses called sex-links. The Leghorns are known to be good layers of white eggs. The two black and brown hybrids (Black or Red Stars) have specific, desirable genetic traits of their parents and are also expected to be good layers of possibly green/blue eggs. Another trait is that one can know very early, from their color and wing feather length, whether they are pullets (female hens that grow into layers) or cockerels (that grow into roosters).

These eggs-traordinary, social animals form our small flock. It will be fun to watch them grow and establish their “Pecking Order”.
